This is a powerful, robust open source database that has many different uses and is very flexible. We use MySQL as our primary database application along with PHP programming because of its cost-effectiveness and ease of development. MySQL is very fast, so its performance is not an issue.
Microsoft's version of robust databasing. It is very effective, fast and powerful. It can utilize stored procedures, multiple tables and DTS packages. The main disadvantage is cost. Where MySQL is free, SQL server costs over $1300. An example of our SQL 2000 databasing and programming is with Prudential MacPherson's real estate site. The entire NWMLS database is stored in the SQL database and updates automatically every day.
Another open-source databasing option. It is more powerful than MySQL, for it can utilize stored procedures and perform more complex rule sets. The database can be of a more complex design. However, it is argued that PostgreSQL is slower and less transferrable than MySQL. |
